Alexander Banh is currently a Principal at Fulcrum Technology Holdings, a private equity platform that specializes in consolidating companies. He has worked with Josh Jia for close to a decade first at Limestone Capital, and later at BMO Capital Markets. At BMO, Alex advised leading companies such as De Beers, Power Corporation of Canada / Potentia Energy, and New Flyer Industries on mergers and acquisitions.
His interest in technology and principal investing was sparked by an internship where he simultaneously worked for a Birch Hill portfolio company and was part of the launch team for The Next 36, Canada’s largest startup incubator. His transition to the technology world after investment banking culminated in raising a ~$130M Series C round for ecobee, an Amazon-backed smart home company and the completion of a Fellowship at the MaRS Discovery District in smart building tech. Now at Fulcrum, beyond his role as a private equity investor, Alex also leads Corporate Development at Fulcrum’s investee companies (Converge / TSXV:CTS, and Spiridon), where he supports senior management with business strategy, fundraising, M&A, FP&A, and corporate finance.
Alex uses his vast personal network and experience across the spectrum of finance functions to not only help candidates with their current recruiting needs, but also develops long-term working relationships to guide candidates in their careers. He regularly mentors 20+ young professionals and students and has placed 30+ candidates into investment banking and private equity roles over the last two years.
Alex knows absolutely nothing about sports. You can find him at the best all you can eat restaurants in the city, crushing laps in a pool, learning Spanish, or playing the guitar. [This year, he is also starting a Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence degree at Queen’s, launching Front Row Ventures in Ontario, supporting the growth of the Canadian impact investing ecosystem as an SIA Fellow, setting up a Foundation with Vision 2020, and plans to travel to at least 5 new countries.]
